TerraLUX TLE-1F MiniStar1 1-Watt Flange Base LED Replacement Bulb for Use in 2-6 Cell C D Maglite Flashlight

I purchased the TerraLUX TLE-1F MiniStar1 1-Watt Flange Base LED (Amazon ASIN: B000B868MA) specifically to use as a replacement for the Krypton bulb which comes with the Rayovac 301K Lantern (Amazon ASIN: B000UEAQO6).

For me, the TLE-1F would _not_ light in the Rayovac 301K -- even when I reversed the polarity of the lantern handle.

The TLE-1F _did_ work in an old (discontinued) Rayovac vertical lantern which uses a spring-terminal, square, 6-volt lantern battery and has a semi-Fresnel lens. The light it thrown by the TLE-1F through the semi-Fresnel lens is, IMHO, too much for safe use indoors but is probably the best one could have for changing a flat tire in the dark -- it illuminates an entire wheel well with a brilliant, white light.

The TLE-1F also worked as a replacement bulb an older 6-D cell MagLite but was not nearly as bright as a new, original equipment, MagLite 3-D cell LED flashlight (which has a 3-Watt LED).

But the TLE-1F did _not_ light in an older, GE 4-D cell lantern.

Huge battery saver! Works perfectly in the magnifier optic device we put it in. Previously this magnifier (used mostly for intricate PC work) was a battery killer. I have used this many months now with no visible change in brightness. Amazing.
We will be getting more for other devices as a result.

This is a basic LED conversion module for C or D flashlights that take a flanged bulb. There is also a version available for flashlights which use screw in bulbs. Use is not restricted to Maglite flashlights so the product description needs to be corrected. The Terralux web site indicates the general flashlight suitability of this LED bulb.

In the two flashlights I installed it in, a 2D cell stainless steel Garrity and a 3D cell Kel-Lite it outputs more light than the Krypton bulbs that it replaced. Results will depend on the flashlight the module is installed in as the 2D Garrity flashlight is brighter than the 3D flashlight. I suspect a combination of reflector design, switch resistance and possibly other factors are involved.

I swapped LED modules between the flashlights and tried brand new batteries in the 3D light with the same results so this result is not related to battery condition or variations in LED bulb output.

The resultant beam in both lights has a center area that is much more even in light output than with a incandescent bulb. The light is yellower than from a Maglite 3W LED conversion module and not as bright but the Maglite one will not fit either light converted due to the larger base diameter and no notch cutout in the flange of the Maglite LED bulb as required by many flange bulb flashlights.

Overall a worthwhile conversion but not comparable in output to many of the high intensity LED lights on the market. Not tested yet but it should provide much increased battery life compared to standard flashlight bulbs and not fail if the light is knocked over or dropped as incandescent bulbs do. Not tested in more than a 3 cell flashlight though it claims to work in any 2 to 6 cell light. -- Fits Most Flashlights
