I currently own a SureFire G2 Nitrolon flashlight and a Brite Strike HLS 2C flashlight. Both of these are very bright, and the Brite Strike has a crenelated head and tail, to be conceivably used as a "weapon." The downside to these flashlights is that they require CR123a lithium batteries, which are not cheap. The Brite Strike also costs $150.00.
The LED Lenser P7's first advantage out of its presentation-style box is that it only requires four "AAA" batteries (and it comes with LED Lenser-branded AAA's as well). This light uses the power of AAA batteries very well, as this light is very bright (200 lumens). The focus mechanism is simply adjusted by sliding the head of the flashlight back and forth, depending on your needs. It doesn't have a strobe setting, but it has "momentary on," where you simply depress the switch just before the point that it clicks, and let go to turn off. The beam can be widened out to either a narrow, focused beam or flood light.
At under $80, it is pricier than a Maglite, but if you work in Law Enforcement or security, or need a bright light to illuminate the interior of large pieces of machinery, or whatver the need, this light is definitely worth it. The light also comes with a lanyard and nylon holster that affixes to a duty belt if necessary. -- Great for lighting stuff up!
I'm a huge fan of Coast Portland's flashlights and have been buying them ever since I found my first model at Costco. The P7 & T7 model is their latest in portable flashlights.
According to Coast's specifications, this model puts out almost 170 lumens using 4 AAA batteries. It is incredibly bright, and I love the fact that it doesn't use difficult to find, expensive lithium batteries like competing products from Innova and other companies. Also, this flashlight has a focus mechanism that lets you select from wide beam or narrow beam. The narrower beam results in light that goes much farther.
If you decide to buy this flashlight, I highly recommend that you invest in some Eneloop rechargeable batteries, which hold their charge for up to a year, and the La Crosse BC-900 charger, both of which you can also buy on Amazon.com. -- Best for a number of reasons
Just got this product over a week ago and i am totally impressed. I live within a suburban area which is properly lit or so i thought. When i turn on this little dynamo it lights up the place. In flood mode i can view all throughout my massive 150 year old mango tree from 50 feet. In spot mode i can see over 200 feet. I can imagine in darker areas it will throw better and will be able to see its true potential. I am hoping for a little blackout to test this thing.
In tight quarters it is extremely bright so be careful if you have white walls. There are a few visible rings, which i do not find annoying, however its not visible outdoors.
As other reviewers stated its slippery, this is the only thing i do not like about this flashlight. The focus mechanism is smooth and its carry case fits tightly.
This is the best and brightest flashlight i've owned (maglite)and i am very pleased with the purchase. Was delivered in a hard plastic container with a 'try me'feature. As such the flashlight came loaded with batteries plus another 4 fresh ones.
As usual Amazon has great customer service.
UPDATE January 12, 2010
Had a black out and wow this thing lights up the room. For a moment i thought the power came back, it was that good!!!.
In spot mode it is too bright to use indoors so i recommend to use flood or the low output. Now i realize that especially in very dark areas maybe a mid output would have been nice, as it can be too bright.
Took it outside and whatever i shown it on lit up. If the focus beam were tighter i am sure that this light could throw in excess of 300m. it is a really good light and still deserves 5 star. -- Daylight in your hands
This is my favorit light!
I had it on a Safari in Afika - I used it to iluminate Stuff while taking pictures
It is very easy to focus and the focus is great!
The LED is bright and the best thing - 4 AAA bateries, which last for a long time.
It has a constant place in my laptop bag.
I am buying LED Lenser products since 10 years and - I love the Quality -- Great LED Flashlight
This is the best flashlight I've ever owned. I used to think the Mag lights were the industry standard and perhaps they once were with the adjustable focal point, but this technology has passed and I always wondered why the distribution of light left large dark spots. Couldn't someone design a flashlight without this? Of course the answer is yes and this flashlight has the following features.
1. perfect focus of light without any dark spots with one hand adjustment (pull the top of the flashlight up and down to adjust)
2. High intensity LED light with an incredible range
3. Battery life is extraordinary.
4. Very solid construction
Downsides
1. The laynard holder is too close to the switch and sometimes gets in the way. This is more of an annoyance though.
2. Expense - the upside is I don't think I will need another flashlight in a long time. Our family has tried to go "green" and make the switch to quality that will last as opposed to 10 plastic flashlights that probably would have a much lower lifetime use.
Hope this review helps.
I would recommend this flashlight -- expensive but worth it
